EXPERIENCE AND PERFORMANCE SUMMARY

Bernice McClendon, president and chief executive officer of Educational Training and Development, Inc. (ETD), is a Certified Business Specialist that has been operating and managing businesses for 33years. She specializes in organization, management, motivation, writing and public speaking. Mrs. McClendon provides technical assistance to businesses in: loan packaging, business plan writing, business charters, 501(c)(3), credit counseling, business start-up, and nurturing developing businesses. She is also an author and producer of self-help books and audiotapes that assist small businesses throughout their development and growth.

While serving on the Illinois Minority Business Task Force, Mrs. McClendon learned of the statistics surrounding the failure of small, minority and women-owned businesses. When she asked why those businesses failed at such an alarmingly high rate, she was told that it was because of their lack of knowledge, resources, money and business education. Mrs. McClendon has counseled and serviced more than 2500 small, minority and women owned businesses. Over the past 14 years she has assisted in getting more than 6 million dollars in loan approvals for approximately 50 small businesses, with a 90% success rate. Approximately $60,000 has been awarded to over 100 graduates of the ABC's of Business classes through pre-financing grants, scholarships and awards for Entrepreneur of the Year.

Mrs. McClendon has personally donated her salary, time and money over the past 22 years to provide technical assistance, consultation, and scholarships to small business owners. Her contributions led to building an organization of "helps".

Mrs. McClendon's slogan is, "If you can't find a job, create one. If you don't like your boss, become one. If you don't like being poor, create some wealth." She is known as the "Mother Teresa" of small business, and has pledged her life to helping others overcome the hurdles of business ownership and management. Her mission is to inspire individuals to believe in themselves, to be creative and to perform at their highest potential.

Mrs. McClendon was the producer and host of, "God Can Make It Happen" a talk show that formally aired on WYCA, WYBA, and WCFJ. As a writer she has successfully written several books and magazine articles for The Gospel Tribune, The Chicago Sun-Times, The Chicago Tribune, and as a writer for hire for David C. Cook Publishing Company. She has produced several audio and video tapes and is the author of The ABC's of Business: A Step-by-Step Guide to Starting and Operating Your Own Business; Records Management Manual: File It to Find It; Volunteer Handbook for Administrators and the Volunteer; and You Can Be A Better You, a motivational audio tape.
